Heading to St. Lucia in july for 2 weeks so I think it might be a good idea.

But it included a deep dive certification. I think it was like $200 but I'm not really sure (it was like 10 years ago).

What I remember is there are a variety of certifications from the full blown type above all the way down to a 1 day certification you can get at most hotels/resorts.

you just scratch the surface when you snorkel. There's nothing like being 100ft down in deep blue water exploring the reefs and small caves. You could always do the cheap one-day certification that allows you to dive for a few days or weeks and see what you think; then if you love it, get a real certification.

Already called a place here in the city. $250 for the class and pool. Guy here will give me a new pair of fins. Just need to get my own snorkel and mask plus the books. Little pricey but for a trip like that it might be worth it. Supposed to be great scuba terrain down there.
