i need to come up with like 400 gold, and tailoring ain't doing it.
my buddy took mining and herbalism and makes some good coin. other than that i know some peeps here swear by ah manipulation...but i dont know about results

farming easy kill mobs are good too, check out wow-pro.com, good suggestions there too

Copper is easy to get in bulk and sells for probably the highest of the newbie-availible items... then about mid-game Herbs take over for bulk while mining stuff retain better value but get more rare.
