We're moving into a new place, and there's no cable jack in the computer room. I was thinking of just getting a wireless setup.

How does speed compare between wireless and ethernet now? I want something just as fast, does it exist? What company makes it? Can I run out and buy it at a store or do I have to order it?

I'd also need two PC wireless cards. Recommendations?

I'd also like the hub to have at least one ethernet port, so we can plug the ancient laptop we have into a cord when needed...

the speed of the cable internet coming into the house is about 1/10th of your ethernet LAN speed (at best). So if you are just hooking everything up so that they can all conenct to the internet, any wireless stuff will be fine.

And you can find plenty of affordable wireless routers. They all typically have the wired ports two, so you can connect things via cable if needed.
