I have never had any of my drives fail on me actually.. but I want to avoid any possibility of this in the future if possible..

Seagate used to have cheetah 10k drives...that was years ago though.

My WD's all seemed to fail really soon after I moved - either from college to home (or vice-versa), or from my parents into the apartment with Keres, or from our apartment into our house.
My seagates are still going strong though.

but Maxtor and WD (we wont even include Fushitsu in this example) have poor design and QA and poor/dirty facilities. They are known for producing entire models and batches that are all bad either because of fundamental design flaws or dirty air during assy. Dell completely stopped using Maxtor because of the cost to them (drive was under warranty but they still pay a tech to come out and install and load a working OS on it) because of entire batches of bad drives (entire optiplex line about 3 years was fucked because of these maxtors. One of my clients ordered 23 workstations for POS machines and 14 of the maxtors failed within the first year. He only orders Dells and was so pissed that Dell replaced the other 9 drives that had not failed yet....with Seagate drives.)
Seagate seems to take much more pride in their product and have been able to avoid the pitfalls that have hit the other two.

but I would imagine they will start offering them if the Seagate purchase of Maxtor goes thru. Maxtor drives wont be so shitty then.
